The territory in which the Graves wines are grown is situated chiefly upon the left bank of the Gironde and Garonne a short distance above Bordeaux. These wines are famous for their bouquet, their fineness, and their general palatability. These wines are mostly white, although some very good red wines are produced also in the Graves region, and range in quality from an ordinary white wine to one of exceptional qualities. They are principally dry wines, but some of them contain sugar though not to such an extent as the Grand Wines of the Sauternais.
