The wines of this celebrated vineyard are almost, if not equally, as famous as the three wines just mentioned. They are mostly red in color and the red wines belong to the first-classed growths. The Chateau Haut-Brion is one of the celebrated vineyards which is closest to Bordeaux, being only five kilometers to the southwest; in fact, almost within the confines of the city. It is rather a large vineyard, consisting of 165 hectares, and this vineyard produces an amount of no tuns of wine of the first class, and about 20 tuns of wine of the second class. The owners of this celebrated chateau are the heirs of Eug. Larrieu. The wine of the Chateau Haut-Brion was already highly esteemed at the beginning of the 16th century, and has always maintained its high reputation on account of its excellence and fineness.
