Marsala wine is perhaps better known to the commercial world than any other Italian wine except Lacrimae Christi and Asti. In the vicinity of Etna red wines are produced in great quantities. Cream of tartar is made in large quantities in Sicily and exported for the manufacture of baking powders and other purposes. Considerable quantities of wine are distilled in Sicily producing a brandy of fair quality. All the Sicilian wines have a very high alcoholic content.
