The buildings for this village are all made from paper. When you have learned the folds needed, where to cut and paste, you will be able to design houses, stores, schools, and churches. Add chimneys, shutters, porches, and steeples, as you like; and paint the buildings any color. These are the steps to take:

Take a square piece of paper and fold in half, and then in half again. See Figs. 1, 2, 3.

Open the paper, and fold the sides up to the middle fold, Fig. 4. Fold both ends towards middle fold. Figs. 5, 6. Fold once more. Then fold over to form one small square.

When unfolded you have 16 squares, as in Fig. 7.

Cut the folds of the four outside squares on two opposite sides as in Fig. 8.

Paste A over A, and C over C. Paste B over B, and D over D.

How To Make Dollhouse Furniture

All kinds of dollhouse furniture can be made from paper boxes. You will need them in different sizes and shapes, and the bottom of a box is useful although there is no cover. When you have a box, you can add a piece to make the back of a chair, the mirror on a bureau, the head and foot board of a bed; or you can cut legs in the sides and make a table. When you can not find a box to fit what you are making, it is easy to fold, cut, and paste one. (See Diagrams)

To make a box, fold a square piece of paper in half, then in half again-Now fold it in half from left to right, then in half again from bottom to top. Open the paper and see if you have sixteen sections. From this pattern all the boxes can be made.

To cut and paste the box, you will need to make slits on the top and bottom folds of two of the sides-as far as the next fold. Put paste on each corner section and fold these in to meet the next space to it. This makes half a box.

To vary the shapes of the boxes, cut off four sections from any side; or cut off the set of sections on both the top and the bottom.

A Scrapbook Dollhouse

Have you ever made a scrapbook dollhouse? Start with a big scrapbook, or if you can find an old wallpaper sample book-the large kind-you will have the best sort of doll house.

Collect pictures of furniture for each room, and paste them in the book-just as you would like to have a real room look. Begin with the front hall. If you can find pictures of doors, paste them in and cut them so they will open and fold back on their hinges. Then your dolls will be able to move from one room to another. From the front hall, go on to the living room, then the dining room, etc.-using a page for each room.

This is not something for girls alone. After all a great many architects who design houses are men. Girls will like this scrapbook home for their paper dolls; but boys will find it fun to make too.
