A joint tenancy is similar to the tenancy in common except that upon the death of one his interest passes to the other - as the law terms it - by survivorship. To create this interest the instrument must specifically so state; as by the words "A to B as joint tenants" or "to A and B and their survivor." Either may convey his interest and in that event a tenancy in common arises.
