If you are in need of extra closet space for keeping your dresses, then I would suggest that you make this wardrobe. The job is not difficult and only requires inexpensive material for making same.

Make this project about 22" wide, 5' 6" high and about 16" deep. The entire model is made of fibre wall board, which you can obtain from any local lumber dealer. This wall board is nailed on to a wooden framework. Common furring lath which is 1"x2" in side, will do for this part of the project.

Method Of Procedure

Step No. 1: Cut the fibre board to the correct sizes for the two sides and back, top and bottom and door.

Step No. 2: Cut the furring lath to the correct lengths and nail the fibre board to these strips. Only put strips on all sides of the two side sections. Make the back and top and bottom pieces large enough to allow for the overlapping at the corners. Now assemble the entire cabinet.

Step No. 3: Run two strips of wood across the side sections for the support to the hanger bar. This bar can be made out of an old broom handle. Simply bore holes in the strips before fastening them in place; then insert the piece of broom handle as you put this hanger support in the cabinet. Your clothes hangers will fit nicely over this pole.

Wardrobe For Dresses

Step No. 4: The door is made just like you made the side sections. Fasten the door in place with three hinges. Put a catch and small knob on the door. You can purchase this hardware at the local five and ten cent store.

Step No. 5: Finish this wardrobe by painting with oil paint; apply at least two coats in the color you prefer.

A strip of narrow molding run across the top of this cabinet will do much to add a touch of finish to the project. Possibly you have a piece of discarded molding around the house that will serve your purpose.

Instead of painting the inside of this wardrobe, you can purchase closet lining material in department stores. This lining comes in many attractive colors and is very simple to use. Besides giving a more feminine touch to this closet, the padded lining can be sprayed with a little tolet water and thereby giving a sweet odor to all your clothes. The lining too gives a more decorative touch to the wardrobe when the door is opened and can be changed should it become soiled at any time.
