Equally, if not more, famous than the Chateau Margaux and also belonging to the first-classed growth is the wine of the Chateau Lafite. This vineyard is the property of the Brothers de Rothschild, the celebrated bankers of Paris. The buildings are situated in a beautiful grove of trees, and the cellars are seen on the left of the chateau buildings.

The wine also has a characteristic quality of dryness, fineness, and superb excellence, and unites in itself all the qualities which make a red wine famous and preferred by every connoisseur. The bouquet of the Lafite wines is especially well known throughout the professional world. The vineyard of the Chateau Lafite contains about 70 hectares, and produces an average of about 170 tuns of first-class wine, about 20 tuns of the second class, and 20
