By reason of the fact that the medicinal properties of certain mineral waters are recognized and established by long experience, and by the further reason that it is customary in certain localities to drink synthetic waters, the industry of the manufacture of drinking water has been developed on a very large scale in the United States. There are large industries engaged in the bottling of the natural waters, but perhaps an equally great industry is engaged in the artificial introduction of carbon dioxid in the natural waters and in the manufacture of waters by distillation, and the addition of the necessary or other desirable mineral ingredients. This artificial water is found upon the market at the present time in very large quantities.
