Nitrate of sodium should be kept in well-stopped bottles. . Colorless, transparent, rhom-bohedral crystals, slightly deliquescent in damp air, odorless, having a cooling, saline and slightly bitter taste, and a neutral reaction. Soluble in 1.3 parts of water at 15° C. (59° F.), and in 0.6 part of boiling water; scarcely soluble in cold, but soluble in 40 parts of boiling alcohol. Its application is rare in the manufacture of artificial mineral waters.

Solution

One part in nine parts of distilled water (10 per cent.). Filter. Proportion 10 to 1.
