C. cristatus: stems slender, wiry, erect, 1-2 feet high; leaves short, narrow; flowering spike semicylindrical, oblong or nearly linear, 1-3 inches long, the clusters regular, all turned to one side. - Dry, hilly pastures, and downs. Fl. August.
