P. monspeliensis: annual; stems procumbent at the base, rarely erect, 1-1 1/2 feet high; leaves flat, rather flaccid; panicle contracted into a slightly branched spike, 2-3 inches long, yellowish shining green, and thickly bearded with numerous straight smooth awns, which are 3-4 times as long as the spikelets. - Fields, near the sea, rare. Fl. July, August.
