T. palustre: leaves slender, rather succulent, dilated and sheathing at the base; flower-stems 1/2-1 foot high, bearing a slender spike of very small, yellowish-green flowers; ripe fruit linear. - Wet meadows and marshes. Fl. June, July.

T. maritimum is very near this, but is usually rather stouter, with more succulent leaves, and the ripe fruit is ovoid or oblong. - Salt marshes.
