Strew powdered charcoal over the surface of the metal; or add borax, which will fuse and form a layer upon the lead, thus excluding the atmosphere. The brown powder is largely oxide of lead; it may be reduced by mixing with finely powdered charcoal and a little borax and raising to a red heat; from it the lead which it contains can thus he recovered.
