Have you ever tried to make shadow pictures on the wall with your hands? You must stand with the light behind you, and hold your hands so they will cast a shadow. You will find that if you fold and cross your fingers in different ways you will make animals, funny faces, and figures.

Crumple up a piece of paper and drop it on the table where it will have a light behind it. This is another way to make shadow pictures. If you have a sheet of drawing paper under the shadow, you can draw an outline of the picture it makes, and will be able to keep a copy of it.

Two Stair Games

Have you ever sat on the top stair, and flown your airplanes from there? Make several paper planes, and then try shooting them down the stairs.

Another game to play on the stairs is parachute throwing. Make several parachutes from tissue paper, or handkerchiefs, and throw them from the top of the stairs.

All you need for the planes is a sheet of paper about 8" x 11". Fold the paper in half, open it, and then fold the two top corners to the center of the fold as in Fig. A. Then turn the paper over. Fold each creased side to center fold (Fig. B). Now open the last folded sides, and holding the plane at the folded edge of the middle line, shoot it this way down the stairs.

TO make a parachute from a handkerchief, tie four pieces of string-all the same length-to each corner. (One end of each string to a corner.) Then join the four other ends of the strings together as in Fig. A. Fasten a small key to the joined ends. This will be your parachute man.

To make a parachute of paper, draw a large circle. Cut it out and tie four strings to the edges as in the handkerchief parachute. Be sure the key is not too heavy so that the paper will not tear.

Ways To Play House

In the country, a pine needle house is fun. Scrape up the needles-making rows for the walls of the house. Leave a thinner row where the windows should be, and have openings in the needle walls for your doors. Piles of the needles and sticks can be used for furniture. Cones, chestnuts, or acorns make good dishes.

At the beach it is fun to mark off rooms for a house in the sand. Put in all the windows and doors. (The windows can be made with double lines; and the doors, no lines at all.)

Collect some shells to use for dishes. Use stones for the furniture. Build a fireplace in the living room with some of the stones.
